Founder and Founding philosophy

The journey into starting ikonik Fitness was born from a desire for independence and a core belief in empowering others.

Drawing from years of experience as a national team swimmer and a dedicated swim coach, while having spent years developing a deep knowledge base in kinesiology, the owner was inspired to create a space where people could learn to take ownership of their own health. The final push came when they noticed a need among athletes, especially masters swimmers, for specialized weight training to support their long-term health and athletic goals. They knew they had the expertise to fill that gap.

ikonik Fitness is not just about personal training; it's about fostering an environment of continuous growth. The philosophy is rooted in teaching clients the skills to be their own trainer, giving them the agency and knowledge to confidently continue their fitness journey long after their sessions are complete.

ikonik Fitness is most passionate about working with people who are new to exercise and eager to learn—those who want to prolong their healthspan and feel a sense of accomplishment.

The goal is for every client to walk away feeling that their time and money were well-spent, equipped with the knowledge and tools to create lasting, positive change in their lives.

The Manta Ray

  • With their enormous "wings" and effortless, fluid movements, manta rays universally symbolize grace, elegance, and freedom. They appear to be flying through the water (and can sometime even fly through the air), representing a spirit of unrestricted movement and a tranquil approach to life's journey.

  • The name "manta" comes from the Spanish word for blanket or cloak. This, combined with their large size, leads to the symbolism of protection. In many coastal cultures, they are seen as gentle guardians of the sea, with some legends suggesting they guide lost sailors to safety. In Hawaiian culture, manta rays (known as hāhālua) are revered as aumākua, or family guardians, who protect their descendants.

  • Manta rays are known for their intelligence and curiosity, often observing divers and interacting with their environment in a deliberate way. This has led them to symbolize perspective, deep insight, and the ability to look beyond the surface. They encourage us to find a broader understanding of the world and to approach challenges with wisdom and a calm, centered mind.

  • For some Indigenous communities with a strong connection to the ocean, the manta ray is seen as a powerful spirit animal or totem. Their ability to glide between the surface and the deep represents a connection between the physical and spiritual worlds, symbolizing a journey of transformation and the peaceful navigation of life's transitions.
